Senior Mechanical Engineer

Position Summary:

We are seeking an R&D Polymer Chemist to develop new and unique polymer chemistries for the industrial processing industry. Responsibilities of this position will include collaborating with internal parties and external chemical partners to develop specialized application-specific products.

Experience Required:

  • Extensive practical and theoretical knowledge of silicones, adhesives, elastomeric materials, and surfactant chemistry through practical experience or post-doctoral research
  • Experience with synthesis of novel polymeric materials
  • Understanding of chemical, thermal, mechanical, and physical testing

Education/Skills:

  • PhD in Polymer Chemistry
  • Laboratory synthesis & characterization of silicone chemistry, adhesives, elastomeric materials, and surfactant chemistry
  • Ability to travel as needed to support commercialization of new products
  • Ability to work safely within CiDRA and partner laboratories and customer facilities
  • Self-starter, highly motivated toward achievements, result-oriented
  • Ability to plan and organize multiple assignments with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work well individually and in team settings
  • Proficient computer skills including MS Office

Job Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Laboratory synthesis and characterization of novel polymeric adhesives focusing on structure/ property relationships
  • Advance understanding of application mechanisms of action
  • Selection and testing of elastomeric porous structures and surface active agents to maximize performance
  • Formulation approaches that consider optimization of efficacy, costs, IP, and regulatory and safety compliance.
    Align concept development with application-specific requirements
  • Work closely with the cross-functional technical team to develop, test, and scale-up a variety of polymeric and surface active products
  • Identify new growth opportunities
  • Conduct performance testing using experimental design and protocol, collection of data, interpretation, and reporting of data
  • Maintain records of experiments, results and conclusions
